The Confirmation of Change

How does a changed man behave? Is there a great difference between his current and past actions? Does his mannerisms and speech go through a noticeable shift?

True change, I believe, occurs more often than we think. A man changes when his view of the world changes. He is changed when what was unknown becomes known. It is this mental shift that truly transforms a man, for every consequential action will now take into account of what he has learnt. In short, we change according to how often new information is attained.

Perhaps the phrase "an unused mind rots away" was used to describe the consequence of lacking novel ideas. The natural unperturbed state of all things is decay. As how the only self-executing prerequisite for death is life, the inactivity of the mind is the only prerequisite for it to rot. The longer you avoid learning new things, the more difficult it becomes to actually grasp new knowledge. The less you use your brain, the weaker it becomes.

Though the advice may be common and cliche, it is nonetheless extremely beneficial for us to read. Be it fictional or otherwise, reading is an easy way for the mind to experience discovery and each discovery changes us ever so slightly.

If reading seems uninteresting than there is nothing to worry about. The 21st century is miraculous in the sense that technology has allowed learning to become unprecedented in its accessibility. Watch a video. Talk to knowledgeable people. The capability is there. The only missing attribute is willingness.
