The Perceived Fruits of Invisible Effort

One of the reasons why many poor and middle-class people fail to emulate the ways of rich people is because they refuse to look beyond the surface. The have-nots admire the luxurious comforts of the haves but they rarely admire the great amount of effort that was put into acquiring those comforts. It is this kind of self-limiting perception that makes poor people stay poor. They see the fruits but they refuse to understand the roots.

The ways to become rich or at least financially free are no longer secrets. Successful men and women have written more than hundreds of books on how to become as wealthy as they are. They also carry out seminars and give talks on the same subject. So if all the knowledge to become wealthy is already out there, what's stopping us from making ridiculous amounts of money?

"Cuma nak atau tak nak saja." is a popular Malay saying that basically means "It's just a matter of whether you want it or not." The saying is very accurate in encompassing the willingness of a person in doing something but it lacks the punch to drive home another important aspect of acquiring something. Commitment.

It's never enough to simply want something. You have to be committed to it. Everyone wants to be rich and live an easy life but not many people are willing to commit to the efforts required in attaining that wealth. The same goes for everything we want in life but don't have. A lot of us want to be fit and have an attractive body but the people who truly get those things are those who commit to it. They discipline themselves to follow a strict diet and a workout routine. To become rich, are you willing you commit yourselves to things such as properly planning your finances and saving a portion of your income only for investments?

If you answered yes, then you have the potential to become as rich as some of the millionaires in this world. The lesson here is simple. If you want to become as successful as someone, stop looking at their results and start understanding their methods. After that, commit yourself to the methods that work and throw away the ones that don't.
